Your Children’s Needs Are Our Priority

For most parents in the Houston area, nothing is more frightening than the prospect of losing custody of their children. If you are engaged in a child custody dispute or fighting to protect your children, contact Currier & Martin. We have decades of experience with child custody matters and will make your children’s well-being our top priority.

Many parents going through divorce consider child custody the most important matter that must be settled. Other times, the parents are not married but struggling to determine who will raise the child the majority of the time. We will work closely with you to identify what arrangement is in your children’s best interests and fight to make that a reality.

Our attorneys understand how tough child custody matters can be, and we will treat your case with the sensitivity and attention it deserves.

The Two Types of Child Custody

In Texas, there are actually two forms of child custody: physical child custody and joint managing conservatorship (JMC). Physical custody refers to where the child lives. Parents can share physical custody, or one parent can receive sole custody. JMC refers to your right to help make vital decisions about your child’s upbringing, such as educational decisions and which doctors will care for him or her. Your JMC rights must be established and protected, even if your co-parent receives sole physical custody and you receive visitation rights.

Handle Your Paternity Case Properly

Many child custody matters are complicated by uncertainty over paternity. If you need to prove the paternity of a child, we will guide you through the process to make sure parental rights are assigned to the proper father.
